Legendary Tatau story.

Here is the story of why only men get tattoos in Samoa and women get Malu.

Long long ago in Samoa lived two young experienced twin girls. Not only were they twins but they were conjoint. The two twins were reading a book about tattoos in Fiji. One of the two said ‘’We should go check it out, the other twin said in a confused voice’’ Really?. ‘’ Yeah’’ one of them said, so they took off to Fiji, Planes weren’t there those days. Same as cruise ships weren’t there too. The two conjoined twins swam to Fiji. When they got to Fiji everyone welcomed them, and immediately told them everything about the Tatau. One of the Fijians said remember only tatau, the women not the men they got told everything they went back to Samoa. On their way back to Samoa they caught a glimpse of light, that came from the bottom of the sea. They both dove under the water and got caught in a murderously strong current, which led them straight to the mysterious light. They saw that the mysterious light was a pearl. When they got to shore they could not remember what the order was that the Fijian man had told him. One of the twins insisted that it was tatau the men and not the women, so they went with it. From now on since the mistake of the twins, the men only get tatau while women have the Malu. That is the story of tatau.
